Ossetia has a rich history and strong traditions, which strongly differ from traditions that l am familiar with. My performance reveals unique character of Ossetian tradition: during the wedding ceremony a bride must stand in the corner of the room while guests are celebrating. She can not eat or drink, the bride must to stay standing. If she stands eight hours it is a perfect ceremony and if she stands six hours it is a good one. Her future husband will come only after the ceremony is over.
My piece presents this physically and mentally challenging moment for a bride. I was standing in the Ossetian wedding dress in front of the camera. "Six-eighths" is my silent dialogue with the culture of Ossetia, my trying to understand the the meaning and purpose of this tradition and my attitude towards it.
